My Korowai
My Korowai is a custom-built widget that provides an intuitive environment for learners of different abilities and skills. It is dynamic, interactive, and, most importantly, engaging. It provides a collaborative space for building relationships, exploring ideas, celebrating successes, and reflecting on progress while learning at Te Kura. This project is just one of many 'Korowai's' where I have designed the UI. This Korowai caters to Te Kura's high school level students. Other Korowai's include Early childhood, Primary, Intermediate, Dual students, and Learning support. All are designed with the users' experience in mind, personalised to their needs and interests while creating a UI suited to their age and learning levels.

The focus was to provide a student-first approach to authentic learning; this meant a fair amount of time was dedicated to listening to the student voice and using their feedback to drive meaningful advancement in our developments.
Each area of My Korowai is broken into segments with supporting documentation to help both learners and their network. The segments have Māori graphics and symbols to reflect a bi-lingual strategy and appeal to the learners’ cultural demographic. The environment is clean, clear, and concise to improve user experience and complement the information provided by learners.

My Korowai launched at the beginning of 2019. In the first quarter of that year, it had 35% engagement without any instruction or promotion. By the end of 2019, 74% of senior-high students and 67% of junior-high students had engaged in My Korowai.. My Korowai provides Te Kura better insight into learners, getting to know the students outside of a subject, and building personalised programmes of learning around their passions and interests.
